Can You See Me?

We know that scientists have discovered new planets outside of our own solar system; however, none of them have been suitable to sustain life. After doing some further research on the subject of “Are We Alone”, in an 2010 article by Seth Borenstein from the Associated Press out there that are similar to earth. They believe we are closer than ever to discovering an “Earth-Like” planet that may be able to support life, or may be already, within our lifetime. Based on new information sent from one of NASA’s current projects, the Kepler Telescope, scientists havediscovered over 1,200 planets that may meet the “Earth” profile. What will the response of society be if it is discovered that there are planets out there able to sustain life? Despite the fact that these planets would be outside of our solar system, would society view these planets as possible threats? Or instead of a threat, would we view it as a way to learn more about our universe and try to make contact? I think there would be an effort to try to make contact, whether it is by governments of the world or free lance agencies. Anyway you look at it, I believe this is an exciting time for our society. To potentially be this close to discovering life on other planets is a discovery that is unmatched to date.

  1. Those seem like good sources -- can you get rid of the longer web addresses and make the titles of the sources (in your post) into the links? If you go to my blog, the latest post explains how to do that and directs you to a Blogger help page on this topic.

  2. I'm excited to find other planets to support life of humans. I wouldn't be threatened I would encourage our government to move our society there. Image what our world could be like if we were able to start over with the technology and knowledge that we have inquired. Fresh air that isn't polluted and water that isn't contaminated would be great. I would personally have to take the people who care about the environment first. Not to mention the new species that we would find there gets me so excited. However I do wonder if there are other humans or intelligent life forms there, would they invite with open arms. What if they were able to see our planet and how we have destroyed it? I wouldn't blame them if they wanted nothing to do with us.

  3. As vast as the universe is, I find it hard to believe that we are the only "intelligent" beings. There seems to be enough sightings of things we don't understand, that it makes one wonder. I know certain events can be explained, but then there are those others.
Stephen Hawking made a comment recently that he has always believed that there are other beings out there, but he never voiced his opinion out of fear that he would be ridiculed. He also has said that he believes if these beings ever came to our planet, that it wouldn't bode well for us--that it would be war. Would I want to visit another planet? I'm not sure---it really sounds fascinating. I don't think we have any right to take over another planet and ruin that one as well, but we are going to run out of our resources in the not so distant future.
